READ OUT HYBRID :
IReS and LEPSI -
Read-out Hybrids needed for the CMS Silicon
Tracker. The hybrid can be defined as a multilayer polyimide board laminated on
a ceramic rigidifier with an extension holding one or more connectors. Several
active chips are implemented on this hybrid to control the read-out sequences
and to perform the readout of the Silicon detector.
ACTIVE CHIPS
ON-BOARD :
-
DCU ( Detector Control Unit ) used for the monitoring of some embedded
parameters like supply voltage and currents on the front-end read-out modules –
designed by CERN –
-
PLL (Phase Locked
-
APV25 (Analog Pipeline Voltage mode) for the read-out and the
conversion of 128 channels. - designed by RAL -
-
MUX (APVMUX) a multiplexer for the outputs of 2 APV25 chips onto a
single optical line driver input – designed by RAL -
At the proptotyping level, each hybrid
manufactured and assembled by the industry is tested at IReS.
Four type of tests are performed :
-
A first Electrical test and functionality test using a special tool
developed by the CMS institutes at Aachen / Louvain / Strasbourg : the FHIT
-
A VISUAL inspection to reports any possible physical damages or fault at the assembly level
-
A METRIC test in order to evaluate if the hybrid can be used later on automatic
assembly and bonding systems
-
A PULL
TEST in order to verifiy the quality of the connexions made by the
manufacturer
Several pre-production batches have been evaluated :
